Alternatives Enterprises, Inc. (AAI) is a state licensed, Medicare/Medicaid
certified, and Joint Commission accredited community healthcare management
agency serving all ages in the Chicagoland area.
Our core belief with regard to the promotion of quality, cost effective
healthcare is that greater service intensity where a person lives creates
self directed behaviors necessary to the greater use of less costly,
primary levels of care. These services coupled with ongoing, individualized
assessment, care coordination, case management, and education create
a healthcare system that, not only manages disease, but prevents the
development and progression of disease while addressing any factor in
a person’s life that could affect desired outcomes. These activities
lead to an immediate and long term quality and cost efficient healthcare
system.
AAI was founded in 1992 by Genevieve Thomas, a Masters prepared registered
nurse with more than 34 years experience in the delivery and management
of health care. Since its inception in the basement of her home with
10 employees, AAI has grown to a multi-million dollar organization that
employs more than 120 health care professionals.
At the outset, Mrs. Thomas differentiated AAI from similar organizations
by adopting an integrated approach to patient care. She recognized early
in her career that a person’s quality of life improved dramatically
when the physical, emotional, spiritual and cultural aspects of their
life were integrated and balanced with their healthcare needs. AAI has
remained steadfast to its mission:
“To provide alternatives
for managing healthcare that integrate the physical, emotional, spiritual,
and cultural needs of customers, while conducting business in a compassionate
and ethical manner.”
AAI
believes that utilization monitoring through an improved system that
includes care coordination, case management, concurrent review, and
post hospitalization planning and management would improve the system’s
efficiency and cost effectiveness. We are uniquely organized and positioned
with a model that addresses the crisis of our nation’s healthcare
system because of our ability to provide comprehensive, integrated healthcare
with seamless continuity of care for hospitals, physicians, community-based
healthcare organizations and individuals.
We see the opportunity to participate in the reshaping of our system
of healthcare, particularly within the Medicare system where the cost
of caring for seniors is in the trillions.
